We work with employers directly to provide a range of supported services
Occupational Health Assessments
We provide help and support to employers who want a detailed report on the issues that are preventing their employee to return to work.
How it works
The occupational health assessment is used to gain information and advice about the issues the employee has in remaining in or returning back to work. It is a non-medical assessment, which will help their manager to understand what kind of support needs to be put in place to help the employee to work effectively.
The assessment is a two-step process:
A referral form is sent to the line manager/employer that asks them to outline the issues they see from their perspective that may have caused sickness absence and what may be the barriers preventing a return to work or be causing problems at work.
The Occupational Health Adviser will use the referral form as a guide to ask the employee about their views on their health and work, to enable them to write a report and give some recommendations that will help both the employee and the line manager/employer to work out the best way forward.
The report is not sent to the line manager/employer until the employee has consented that the report is accurate and reflects their views of the conversation that they have had with the Occupational Health Adviser. The reports are confidential, they are not seen by any SOHAS staff, apart from the author. We aim to produce a report within 15 working days.
Display Screen Equipment (DSE) Assessments
It’s often overlooked that employees (particularly new employees) will benefit from making sure that their desk and computer or laptop are set up in a way that will not negatively impact health. Back pain is one the major issues suffered by employees who have not had their workstation or home workplace assessed.
We offer a quick and effective assessment process for employers and we often give additional practical advice for your employee and how to manage their health at work.
Consultancy and Survey Work
We carry out consultancy and survey work for employers, some recent examples include:
- Carrying out a survey using the HSE management standards to identify the risk of stress in the workplace
- We have provided training through our health and wellbeing team to make their reasonable adjustments response more effective, giving them some practical tools to use for their employees with a fluctuating health condition.
We are currently working on producing content for an education based business on how teachers can manage their workplace health issues effectively, giving them some practical tools to keep them at work.
