Advice for patients
SOHAS is a voluntary organisation providing advice to people in the Sheffield area.
Our advice is designed to help you to improve conditions at work. Our past work has helped to gain recognition for problems such as stress at work, repetitive strain injuries, lung problems caused by work in the steel and engineering industry and problems of workers with chronic health problems.
What we do
- We give confidential advice and support to people with work-related ill health.
- We advise on your health and safety rights.
- We aim to raise awareness of work-related health problems.
- We can also carry out health check for deafness, lung disease and vibration damage.
Where you can find us
Our advisers are based in many GP surgeries throughout Sheffield. See our current timetable for advisers and their surgeries.

IAPT (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies) Employment Adviser
If there is not a SOHAS Adviser in your surgery and work is affecting your mental health or your mental health is affecting your work then you can contact our IAPT Employment Adviser for support. She can offer advice and guidance around:
- Employment law and employee rights
- Disability discrimination, reasonable adjustments etc
- Work-related stress
- Raising awareness/training around mental health problems for employers
- Support to access other services such as supported employment agencies
